Australia's opposition Labor Party has questioned the need for female sailors to be given breast enlargements paid for with public money.

　オーストラリア海軍が女性水兵の豊胸手術に公費を支出したとかで、野党が追及しているそうです。
　オーストラリア海軍さんは気前が良いなぁ、と思ったのですが…。

An armed forces spokesman defended the operations, saying they were carried out for psychological reasons, not to make sailors "look sexy".

　軍のスポークスマンが弁明したところによると、豊胸手術は水兵さんを「セクシーに見せる」ためではなく、精神的な理由によるものだそうです。
　豊胸手術を受けた水兵さん、見た目はピンナップガールのように素晴らしいのでしょうが、狭い軍艦の中ではきっと苦労されるでしょうね。

　手術はひょっとして、軍の宣伝のためかな？

"We do consider the broader needs of our people, both physical and psychological," Brig Nikolic said.

「軍は兵士の肉体的、精神的な問題に対して広範囲に対処している」と、Andrew Nikolic 准将は述べています。
　しかし…

"But that is a long way from saying that if someone doesn't like their appearance, Defence will fund things like breast augmentation as a matter of routine - that is just not correct."

　
　外見を良くしたいという兵士のニーズに応えて、軍が豊胸手術の費用を負担しているなどという話は、全くもって間違っているとのこと。
　なんでも、診断に当った医師が豊胸手術を薦めた場合に限って出費していたそうです。
　

"On the face of it, taxpayer-funded breast enhancement is a questionable practice," said Labor defence spokesman Joel Fitzgibbon.

"I have to say [it] smacks of a government out of touch."

　野党労働党はより詳細な説明を求めているそうです。
　納税者が豊胸手術のお金を払うのは questionable practice とのこと。

　まぁ、野党としては当たり前の追求なのですが、どうやら海外では豊胸手術がずいぶん普及しているようですね。

An iguana which was smuggled into Blackpool Airport in a woman's bra has found a new home at the resort's zoo.

　英国のブラックプール空港で、ブラジャーの下からイグアナが見つかったそうです。
　そのイグアナはブラックプールの動物園に引き取られる事になったそうですが…。

　さてさて、この空港でいったい何が起きたのでしょう？

The green reptile was discovered when a police officer noticed something was moving under a woman's dress at the airport on Friday.

　金曜日のブラックプール空港で、女性の衣服の下で何ものかが動いたのに、ある警察官が気付いたそうです。

She was stopped and after a security guard found the iguana peeking out of her bra, she admitted it was hers.

　当然、この女性は止められました。
　そこで空港の保安要員は、彼女のブラジャーの間から顔をのぞかせているイグアナを発見したそうです。
　彼女のペットだったそうです。

Police said the woman, who agreed her pet could go to a new home at Blackpool Zoo, would not be prosecuted.

　女性はブラックプール動物園にイグアナを引き取ってもらう事に同意したそうですが、起訴は免れるとのこと。
　しかしまぁ、気持ち悪くなかったのかな？

Sue Kendrick, of the airport, said: "Due to the security measures in place at the airport, we are used to confiscating many items. But we never expected to see an iguana."

　同空港の Sue Kendrick さんは、保安上の理由から様々なものを没収してきたそうですが、イグアナを見ることになるとは思っていなかったそうです。

　世の中には色んなサプライズがあるようですね。
