英国：太りすぎのハリネズミ ＆ NZ：情報提供者に一生分のビールを進呈

ご無沙汰でございまーす。

すっかり更新を忘れていました。

実は今、日本国外にいます。
しかも、フランス語とアラビア語は通じるのですが、英語はあまり通じない国です。

それでも、英語が話せると何とかなるもので、バタバタしながらもなんとかやっております。

A hedgehog that weighs nearly four times as much as its fellow spiny mammals has been put on a diet.

太りすぎのハリネズミが見つかったそうです。
なんと、そのハリネズミの体重は通常の四倍とのこと。

The hedgehog, who was being looked after following an eye injury, has now been put on a high protein diet similar to the Atkins plan.

保護されたハリネズミ、現在、アトキンス・ダイエットに類似した方法で体重を減らしているそうです。

標準の四倍ってすごいですね。
でも、なぜそんなに太ってしまったのでしょうか？

"He was being kept in a greenhouse and had been chomping his way around their garden. He has been eating the bread left out for the birds and slowly going up in weight.

She added: "We've got to reduce his weight and we've got to do it slowly. Cat food is high in protein and we're stopping him eating bread. So it's a bit like the Atkins diet."

どうやらこのハリネズミ君、温室の中にいたようですね。
そこで鳥が食べ残したパンを食べている間に、どんどんと太っていったようです。
パンの代わりに、高蛋白のキャットフードを与えて、ダイエットさせるようですね。

George is also being kept in a heated greenhouse to stop him going into hibernation because toxins released from his excess fat during the winter could kill him, Ms Cowen added.

このハリネズミの George 君、冬眠もできないみたいですね。
というのは、彼の過剰な脂肪から発生する毒物が、冬眠中に彼を殺してしまうかも知れないからだそうです。
そのため、彼は暖かい温室の中で過ごしているそうです。

いやいや、動物でも人間でも、偏った食事や食べすぎは良くないみたいですね。

A New Zealand brewery is reportedly offering a lifetime supply of beer for the return of a stolen laptop.

貴重な情報を入れたラップトップを盗まれてしまったビール会社、その泥棒の情報提供者に一生分のビールを提供するそうです。

Owners were desperate to retrieve the computer containing designs, contact details and financial information, the Rotorua Daily Post said.

ラップトップには製品デザインや関係者の詳細情報のほかに、財務情報も記録されていたそうで、回収に躍起になっているそうです。

They have offered free beer to anyone giving clues leading to its recovery.

Co-owner Paul Croucher said the company would provide a lifetime supply of about 12 bottles a month to anyone who could name the thief.

泥棒を名指しできた人に対して、１か月につきビール12本を生涯にわたって提供すると、ビール会社の共同経営者は申し出ているそうです。

そんな大切な情報なら、バックアップを取ってたんじゃないの？と思うのですが…、

The company has back-up copies of the material stored on the laptop but these are not up to date, the newspaper said.

バックアップは取っていたそうですが、アップデートされていなかったようですね。
